Unique Thanksgiving Dish Ideas

Try one of these unique main, side, and dessert recipes to surprise everyone at the Thanksgiving table this year.

There’s no doubt that Thanksgiving is full of traditions. Between your great-grandma’s noodles, mom’s sweet potato casserole, and uncle’s pecan pie you may think there’s little-to-no room to make your mark and bring a little pizzazz to the meal. Prove them wrong and put your own spin on the traditional fare.

Depending on how your family divvies out the dishes and how much they hold on to tradition, you may or may not have a big say in the different offerings served, but no matter what dish you’ve been assigned to bring to this year’s Thanksgiving, wow your fellow guests with one of these unique recipes!

The turkey is arguably the star of the Thanksgiving Day meal. If you’ve been bestowed the honor of cooking the main course, don’t be scared or intimidated. Shake things up a bit with a unique brine like this Sweet Tea and Citrus Brined Turkey, or skip the brine and fully embrace an American stereotype and wrap your turkey in bacon. If you have a vegetarian friend or family member, try this Thanksgiving Cauliflower so they don’t have to stick to eating sides all day.

While the turkey may be the star of the Thanksgiving show, we all know everyone’s actually there for the sides. Can you really call it Thanksgiving without mashed potatoes, green bean casserole, mac and cheese, or stuffing? Put a twist on the classics with these Gruyere and Caramelized Onion Mashed Potatoes, Green Bean Casserole with Onion Rings, Baked Mac and Cheese with Sour Cream and Cottage Cheese, and Buffalo Cheddar Beer Bread Stuffing.

No Thanksgiving feast would be complete without an obscene amount of desserts. This year let everyone else bring the traditional pumpkin and pecan pies while you pull out Instagram-worthy dishes like Apple Pie Salsa with Cinnamon Sugar Tortilla Chips, Vanilla Ice Cream Bread Pudding with Whiskey Caramel, and Purple Sweet Potato Pie.
